USA Web School Community Project
The Debra Regan Community Garden
Growing food, growing community.
Named in honor of Debra Jean Reagan — avid gardener, nature lover, and the late mother of USA Web School founder Kris Tyte.
About the Garden
We are transforming the back 1/8-acre of the Tyte family property at 5411 Tuckaseegee Rd into a thriving urban oasis.
10 Garden Plots
Nine plots for Charlotte 360 Apartments families, one shared community hub plot.
Community Partnership
Partnering directly with our neighbors at the Charlotte 360 Apartments.
Natural Resources
50-year-old native soil and an on-site groundwater well for sustainable irrigation.
Our Roadmap
Initial Land Clearing
CompletedMarch 7, 2026
The crew came out and hacked back the overgrowth and cleared the heavy debris behind the Tyte family home. The footprint of our future garden has been revealed and the canvas is ready!
The Great Spring Blitz!
CompletedSaturday, March 14, 2026
Phase 1 is in the books! Turnout was small but mighty — every volunteer gave it their all. We got the stump grinding done and made major progress on brush clearing and perimeter work. The remaining brush & perimeter and soil work continues into Phase 2.
Special thanks to our Phase 1 crew:
Sean, Sahara, Izzy, Rochelle, Shaday, Kai, Isabella, Sue, Erik, and Owen — your hard work on The Great Spring Blitz made this possible!
Stump Grinder Crew
All stumps pulverized — done! ✅
Brush & Perimeter Team
Great progress — continuing into Phase 2.
The Soil Syndicate
Work begins in Phase 2 — compost and rototilling ahead.
The Infrastructure Scavenger Hunt
In ProgressMarch 2026
Finishing what Phase 1 started and building the bones of the garden on a grassroots budget.
March 21 Work Day — Another Big Saturday!
We had a full work day with many volunteers, family, and friends turning out to get 3 full garden beds in place. The scavenger hunt for materials begins! Over the next two weeks, we'll continue to build out the plots and scavenge for materials. We are well on our way!
Our Phase 2 crew (March 21):
Joel, Bryn, Rochelle, Sean, Owen, Izzy, Sahara, Erik, Quinn, Matt, Kris & Sue — thank you for another incredible day!
We still need hands for brush clearing, perimeter work, and soil prep — plus our infrastructure crews are gearing up:
Brush & Perimeter Team
Continuing the clearing, pulling rocks, and marking the security fence footprint.
The Soil Syndicate
Spreading compost and running the rototiller to fold nutrients deep into native Charlotte soil.
- Fortification Task Force: Sourcing hardware cloth, T-posts, and gates for a rabbit-proof trench-buried perimeter fence.
- Hydro Squad: Sourcing food-grade IBC totes and PVC for rainwater catchment and well distribution.
- Mulch Movers: Coordinating with local tree services for free wood chips for our 3-foot walking paths.
