Lesson Notes
Rewrite mixed numbers as improper fractions before you multiply or divide, and decide the sign of the answer before you calculate.
Worked example
$-3.6 \div (-0.04)$: both signs are negative, so the answer is positive.
Move the decimal two places in both numbers: $360 \div 4 = 90$.
- Divide by a decimal by shifting the decimal point the same number of places in the divisor and the dividend.
- Divide by a fraction by multiplying by its reciprocal.
- Parentheses first, then multiply and divide, then add and subtract.
One step per line. The order of operations is easiest to follow when each line shows one operation.
25 problems. Show your work in the space under each problem, then put a box around your answer. Write fraction answers as improper fractions in lowest terms. Write decimal answers as decimals. On screen, the eye at the right of each problem shows or hides the worked solution.
